MOSCOW: Death toll in terrorist attacks in Russia’s Dagestan on Sunday evening has risen over 15, Russian news agency Sputnik reported on Monday.
Sergei Melikov, Head of Dagestan Republic said, ‘More than 15 police officers fell victim to today’s terrorist attack while holding weapons in their hands and defending the peace of Dagestan. Several more civilians also were killed during the clashes.’
In a video message published on Telegram, he also added that law enforcement officers eliminated six gunmen involved in the attacks.
On Sunday evening, unknown gunmen opened fire at two churches, a synagogue and a traffic police station in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala. Authorities have launched a counterterrorist operation.
