MOSCOW: The number of people killed in Sunday’s gun attacks in Russia’s Dagestan Republic has risen to 21, Russian news agency Sputnik reported on Tuesday, quoting the regional health ministry.
Earlier in the day, a law enforcement source told Sputnik that the number of police officers killed in the attacks had risen to 16.
The ministry said doctors are making all efforts to save the lives of those injured in the terrorist act in Makhachkala and Derbent???. Unfortunately, today, the number of those killed has risen to 21, with both law enforcement officers and civilians among them, it added.
On Monday, the head of Dagestan’s health ministry said that at least 46 others were injured in a string of attacks launched by gunmen in Dagestan on Sunday evening.
Gunmen had opened fire at two churches, two synagogues and a traffic police post in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala, prompting a counterterrorist operation that killed five assailants.
