Gustavo Petro, President of the Republic of Colombia, affirmed that the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) is an important platform for deliberating on climate change issues.

Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during his participation in the global event, he said that COP28’s significance lies in its potential to spark crucial conversations about climate change in the Arab world.

COP28 is a unique opportunity, he said, to explore how a thriving future can be built beyond traditional energy sources.

This event delves into the practicalities of transitioning the energy sector, showcasing how strategic investments can unlock prosperity without dependence on fossil fuels only, the Colombian president continued.

He stressed the importance of the US$30 billion climate-focused investment fund which the UAE announced yesterday to support the path of international climate action in the service of humanity.

Colombia’s particip
ation in the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) comes in order to enhance international joint work to address the threat of climate change and push the path of climate action to achieve results that benefit everyone in the world.
