Egyptian Minister of State for Environmental Affairs, Yasmeen Fouad, held a virtual meeting on Sunday with Executive Director of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), Nardos Bekele Thomas, to discuss co-operation, especially in the launch of the African Centre of Excellence on Climate Change Resilience and Adaptation (ACECCRA) in Cairo.
Minister Fouad expressed hopes for enhancing co-operation with the AUDA-NEPAD in the coming period on the road to formulating a roadmap for the establishment of the centre and launching it this year.
This, she said, would coincide with the 29th United Nations climate change conference (COP29), which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Minister Fouad and Thomas discussed the funding sources and the resource management strategy of the centre. Their talks also covered the required action plan for accelerating the establishment of the centre after determining its needs, priorities, and the criteria for selecting its work team.
The minister said she looked forward to
visiting the headquarters of the AUDA-NEPAD later this month to coordinate procedures for the establishment of the centre directly and determine its basic needs and procedures for the coming period.
Thomas, for her part, expressed hopes for increasing co-operation with the Egyptian Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs in determining the course of action during the coming period and supporting the centre’s role in strengthening adaptation and resilience efforts in Africa.
