RAMALLAH: Nakashima Yoichi, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine, visited Fahmeh village and Kufur Rai municipality in Jenin governorate to celebrate the completion of the projects funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) in the presence of Governor of Jenin, Kamal Abu Alrob, said a press release issued by Representative Office of Japan to Palestine.

The Government of Japan extended a grant of $89,129 to Fahmeh Village Council to ensure the safety of residents by rehabilitating 6,000 meters of old electric cables, replacing 200 meters of high-voltage cable with new underground one, and installing 2,000 meters of new low-voltage cable to prevent accidents such as power failures.

The grant also aims to improve residents’ access to sufficient electricity for using electric appliances by installing an electric transformer.

Approximately 3,500 residents throughout the village directly benefited from
the project upon it completion.

The Government of Japan also extended a grant of $90,500 to Kufur Rai Municipality Council to ensure that the residents in the village have access to stable and sufficient supply of water by replacing the water pump and rehabilitating 1,900 meters of water lines.

Upon completion of the project, approximately 15,300 people, including those in Kufur Rai municipality and surrounding villages, directly benefited, 3,200 of whom were previously not connected to the water line.

In his speech, Nakashima emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from a human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.
