AL-BIREH: The preparatory committee for the International Day of Solidarity with Gaza and Prisoners announced Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, as a national and global day in support of Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
Head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), Abdullah al-Zaghar, said during a press conference today that the Israeli occupation’s massacres in the Gaza Strip and the crimes committed against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails constitute the basis for national unity and the defeat of the occupation.
He stressed the need to activate all available means to encourage the world to take crucial and concrete steps to stop the 10-month-long Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip and provide protection to prisoners, stating that the genocide did not start on the 7th of October, 2023, but it’s merely a continuation of decades-long catastrophes against the Palestinian people.
The statement issued by the preparatory committee called for imposing legal sanctions on Israel encompassing
diplomatic, economic, and financial aspects, ending all other forms of complicity with Israel’s illegal military occupation, and reactivating the special committee of the United Nations to combat apartheid to help eradicate the apartheid regime in Israel and hold those responsible to account.
The statement also called for suspending Israel’s membership in the United Nations and stripping it of its privileges and membership rights.
It called on the European Union (EU) to suspend the Schengen Agreement, which benefits terrorist colonial gangs and Israeli political and military leaders involved in genocide, as well as in the killing and torture of prisoners.
