China’s photovoltaic industry maintains global leadership

BEIJING: China’s photovoltaic (PV) industry continues to lead globally in market size, technology, production, manufacturing and industrial chain completeness, according to Liu Yiyang, Deputy Secretary General of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA).

In an exclusive interview with China Economic Net, Liu expressed confidence that the recent month-on-month decline in PV product exports is a temporary fluctuation rather than a long-term trend. He expects exports to resume an upward growth trajectory.

“China’s photovoltaic industry absolutely ranks first in the world not only in terms of market size, technology level, production and manufacturing capabilities, but also in the completeness of its industrial chain,” Liu stated. “I’m firmly convinced that the month-on-month decline in PV product exports will not be a long-term trend, but rather a volatile upward growth pattern.”

The 2024 Government Work Report highlighted that China’s renewable energy power generation installed capacity has histori
cally surpassed thermal power for the first time, accounting for more than half of the world’s new installed capacity throughout the year.

Looking ahead, Liu indicated a global consensus that by 2030, new energy installed capacity, including photovoltaics, will triple from current levels. “2030 is not far away, which means global demand for PV will continue to rise rapidly,” he noted.
