China Endorses Egypt’s Gaza Reconstruction Plan at Arab Summit


Cairo: China’s Ambassador to Cairo, Liao Liqiang, announced Beijing’s support for Egypt’s proposal for the reconstruction of Gaza, a plan that has been adopted by Arab countries during the extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo. Ambassador Liao emphasized the collaboration between China and Egypt to bolster development in southern nations.



According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Liao, in an interview with the China Daily, urged the international community to pursue a sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to facilitate increased humanitarian aid. He underscored China’s role as a strategic partner to Middle Eastern countries and its friendship with Arab nations, highlighting the importance of Sino-Egyptian relations.



Liao expressed China’s anticipation of Egypt’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s agenda under China’s leadership. He also noted that 2026 will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, coinciding with Beijing’s hosting of the second China-Arab Summit.



On March 4, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi led the Extraordinary Arab Summit, convened at Palestine’s request, to address the Palestinian issue and support the Palestinian people. In his opening remarks, President El-Sisi highlighted the severe challenges threatening regional stability and Arab national security.



President El-Sisi detailed Egypt’s collaborative efforts with Palestine and international bodies to create a comprehensive Gaza reconstruction plan, beginning with immediate relief and progressing to rebuilding efforts. He urged global adoption and support for this initiative.



Arab leaders commended Egypt’s Gaza reconstruction plan and collectively opposed any attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause or displace its people, reinforcing their stance during the summit in Cairo.
