Chief of staff back home after official trip to Cyprus

Chief of the Staff of the Armed Forces Osama Askar returned home on Saturday 02/04/2022, wrapping up a several-day official visit to Cyprus during which he met Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, Minister of Defense Charalambos Petrides and the commander of the National Guard.

The Cypriot president and defense minister hailed the deeply-rooted ties between both countries.

During the meeting with the defense minister, Askar and Petrides underlined the need for constant coordination to promote military and security cooperation and share military expertise, the Egyptian military spokesman said on his official social media account.

The visit agenda has also included a session of talks between the Egyptian and Greek delegations to discuss a raft of issues of mutual concern.

During his visit, Askar also paid an inspection tour a Cypriot naval unit, the Cypriot search and rescue operations (SAR) center, and the HQ of the Cypriot National Guard, the spokesman noted.
