Trade exchange between Egypt and Jordan rose 7.1 percent during 2022, reaching $980.4 million, up from $915.8 million in 2021, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

CAPMAS stated that Egyptian exports to Jordan amounted to $726.5 million in 2022, up from $711.1 million in 2021, marking an increase of 2.2 percent. Meanwhile, Egyptian imports from Jordan reached $253.9 million in 2022, compared to $204.7 million in 2021, indicating a surge of 24 percent.

Regarding the key commodity groups Egypt exported to Jordan in 2022, fuel and mineral oils ranked first with a value of $155 million, followed by vegetables and fruits at $69 million, electrical machinery and appliances at $55 million, prepared vegetables and fruits at $42 million, and ceramic products at $34 million.

As for the primary commodity groups imported by Egypt from Jordan in 2022, fertilizers took the lead with a value of $143 million, followed by pharmaceutical products at $24 million, aluminum and its products at $13 million, plastic materials and products at $12 million, and chemical products at $7 million.

Remittances from Egyptians expatriates in Jordan reached $792.9 million during the fiscal year 2021-2022, compared to $774.2 million in the fiscal year 2020-2021, with an increase of 2.4 percent. Meanwhile, the value of remittances from Jordanians working in Egypt was $9.6 million during the fiscal year 2021-2022, down from $12.7 million in the fiscal year 2020-2021, showing a decrease of 24.3 percent.

Egypt’s population was recorded at 104.5 million in 2022, while Jordan’s population stood at 11.3 million in the same year. The estimated number of Egyptians residing in Jordan, according to the mission’s estimations, reached 900,000 Egyptians by the end of 2022.
