Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal said that naming Cairo as the capital of Islamic culture reflects Egypt’s cultural status and the rich legacy and heritage that Cairo boasts.
The governor made the remarks on Tuesday 12/4/2022 during a meeting with Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Salim M. AlMalik and his accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed benefiting from selecting Cairo as the capital of Islamic culture in raising the new generations’ awareness about Cairo and means of marketing this choice.
The meeting also touched on a study to establish in Cairo a model of the Medina-based International Exhibition and Museum of the Life of Muhammad (pbuh).
During the meeting, Abdel Aal hailed efforts being exerted by the ICESCO director general since he assumed office to serve ICESCO’s objectives “to strengthen and promote cooperation among the Member States in the fields of education, science, culture and communication; consolidate understanding among peoples inside and outside Member State; contribute to world peace and security through various means; publicize the true image of Islam and Islamic culture; promote dialogue among civilizations, cultures and religions; encourage cultural interaction and foster cultural diversity in the Member States, while preserving cultural identity and intellectual integrity.”
Meanwhile, the ICESCO director general said Cairo‘s rich history represents a source of pride for each citizen, adding that there will be cooperation and coordination between the organization and Cairo governorate to implement celebrations to mark Cairo’s selection as the capital of the Islamic culture.
