Cairo: Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, chaired the 37th Cabinet meeting at the New Administrative Capital, focusing on key topics, including the establishment of seven new private universities. During the meeting, Dr. Madbouly highlighted the importance of maintaining vigilance during the Eid al-Fitr holiday and discussed the celebration of Laylat al-Qadr attended by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Cabinet approved a draft law for the state budget for the financial year 2025/2026 and the budget for public economic bodies for the same period. A significant decision was the approval of various presidential draft decisions to create seven new private universities. This expansion aligns with Egypt’s strategy to develop its educational institutions and increase the number of private universities to 32.
The newly approved institutions include Sohag Private University in Sohag Governorate and Kafr El Sheikh Private University in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, each offering a range of specialized colleges. Ain Shams Private University will be established in Cairo’s New Administrative Capital, while Cairo Private University will take root in 6th of October City, Giza. Damanhour Private University is set for Beheira Governorate, Suez Private University in Suez Governorate, and New Valley Private University in New Valley Governorate. These universities aim to enhance education and scientific research, offering various fields of study and fostering ties with global institutions.
The Cabinet also approved the formation of a committee to monitor the implementation of the government’s programme for 2024/2025 to 2026/2027. This committee will ensure adherence to timelines and propose corrective measures as necessary.
Additionally, the Cabinet authorised the Ministry of Finance to issue a commemorative silver coin for the silver jubilee of the National Council for Women. The service of 181 medical professionals in the Ministry of Health and Population was extended for two years beyond their retirement age.
The Cabinet sanctioned a new project under the private free zones system named “Alstom Railways Components Manufacturing LLC” in Alexandria, aiming to bolster foreign investments and create job opportunities.
The National Authority for Tunnels received approval for a contract to supply rolling stock for the Alexandria regional metro project. This initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise Egypt’s transportation infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion.
A contract was also approved between the National Railways Authority of Egypt and Progress Rail Locomotive Inc. to upgrade 100 diesel-electric locomotives, further enhancing the country’s rail capabilities.
The Cabinet endorsed the launch of the “Housing for All Egyptians No. 7” initiative, offering 115,000 housing units for low and middle-income individuals across various cities. Additionally, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy received approval to continue contracting with Schneider Electric for control centre implementations.
Lastly, the Urban Development Fund was tasked with replacing residential buildings in Assiut due to safety concerns, and Alexandria Governorate will partner with Arab Contractors Company to restore buildings along the Corniche.
