Amman: The total licensed building areas in Jordan during the first third of 2024 amounted to 2.530 million square meters, a 12% decrease from the 2.872 million square meters recorded during the same period last year.
The Department of Statistics’ monthly report, released on Thursday, indicated that the total number of building permits issued in the Kingdom reached 6,730 during the same period, down 11.7% from 7,624 permits last year.
For residential purposes, the licensed areas totaled 2.027 million square meters, a decrease of 18.5% compared to 2.487 million square meters last year. Conversely, the area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes increased by 30%, reaching approximately 503,000 square meters, up from about 386,000 square meters.
The report also highlighted that buildings licensed for residential purposes constituted 80.1% of the total licensed building area, while non-residential purposes accounted for 19.9%.

d building area, a decrease of 1.5%. The northern region’s share was 23.6%, an increase of 0.5%, and the southern region accounted for 8.7%, an increase of 11.5%.
