In the context of ongoing diplomatic efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants to curb Israeli aggression against Lebanon, Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdallah Bou Habib, on Thursday received a phone call from Norwegian Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide.
The discussion centered on the latest initiatives aimed at preventing a full-scale war due to Israel’s escalating actions in Lebanon and Iran, as well as its continued assaults on Lebanon and Gaza.
‘The Israeli escalation aims to disrupt U.S. President Joe Biden’s initiative for a ceasefire in Gaza, which was endorsed by the Security Council in Resolution 2735,’ asserted Bou Habib, condemning Israel’s deliberate targeting of civilians in its attacks on Lebanon, describing it as a blatant violation of international law.
In response, the Norwegian Foreign Minister emphasized his country’s commitment to working with all relevant parties to de-escalate tensions and prevent further conflict, noting that “prioritizing the
interests of the Palestinians and achieving a ceasefire in Gaza necessitates avoiding the ignition of war in the region.”
Eide reaffirmed Norway’s significant concern for Lebanon, expressing a desire to prevent it from becoming a victim of renewed escalation and conflict in the area.
