Bid to bolster ties with ILO in social protection, economic empowerment


Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsi held talks on Monday with Director of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) office in Cairo Eric Ouchlan, and an accompanying delegation.

The two sides probed ways of enhancing co-operation in topics of mutual concern within the coming period.

They also discussed vital topics including the national framework for social protection, economic empowerment programmes, the care economy, and the role of co-operatives as a tool to boost economic empowerment, in addition to the issue of child labor.

The meeting also addressed efforts to expand social protection to include new categories, especially in light of the ILO’s active role in accelerating global efforts on jobs and social protection.

The discussion further explored ways to strengthen cooperation between the Egyptian government and the ILO through flexible, sustainable, and innovative solutions, leveraging global expertise and adopting effective local initiatives that promote social solidarity, creat
e decent job opportunities, and contribute to sustainable development.

For his part, the ILO official highly appreciated the fruitful co-operation between the ministry and the ILO office, affirming the continued active collaboration between them.
