Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarub Qudah, emphasized expediting the process to attract a qualified developer for the joint Jordan-Iraq economic city project, which is still up for grabs until the end of this month.

Speaking during a meeting with an Iraqi delegation on Thursday, Qudah underscored the importance of selecting a developer with the technical and financial capacity to implement the initiative.

Qudah reaffirmed the ministry’s support for the Iraqi-Jordanian Industrial Company, which is jointly owned by the Jordanian and Iraqi governments and tasked with overseeing the project’s implementation. He noted that the project would serve as a cornerstone for enhancing economic collaboration between the two nations across various sectors, reflecting the mutual commitment to strengthening economic, investment, and trade relations.

He highlighted the economic city’s potential to boost cooperation, offering significant opportunities for investors to market their products to both Jordanian and Ir
aqi consumer markets, as well as those of countries with which Jordan holds free trade agreements.

The Iraqi delegation included the Chairman of the Iraqi Industrial Cities Authority, Hamid Issawi, Vice Chairman of the Iraqi Jordanian Industrial Company, and the company’s General Manager, Abdul Ghani Jaafar. The company’s Board of Directors provided updates on efforts to attract a developer for the economic city project and discussed potential investments in Jordan and Iraq.

Last August, the Iraqi-Jordanian Industrial Company reissued an international tender for the third time to secure a developer for the project’s first phase.

The deadline for bid submissions is set for Sunday, September 29, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., according to local time in Baghdad, at the company’s headquarters in the Iraqi capital.
