Bethlehem – Ma’an – Under the patronage and presence of the Governor of Bethlehem, the Fajr Palestinian Wounded Association and the Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation launched the Fajr Fund for Artificial Limbs, which aims to provide treatment and rehabilitation for Palestinian wounded.

The fund launch ceremony was held at the Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation, in the presence of Governor Mohammed Taha Abu Alia, Jamal Al-Shati, Secretary General of the Palestine Wounded Association, Elie Shehadeh, Director General of the Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation, Director of Programs and Projects at the Society, Mahran Al-Tawil, members of the General Secretariat of the Wounded Association, Coordinator of the Factional Coordination Committee in Bethlehem, Mohammed Al-Jaafari, and a number of officials and media representatives.

Jamal Al-Shatti, Secretary-General of the Palestine Wounded Association, said that the Arab Association has not neglected its duties towards our people over the years,
whether in cases of natural disability or injuries caused by the occupation, explaining that this fund is for artificial limbs and factors that assist the wounded.

Al-Shati explained that this fund came to ease the burden on our surgeons, regardless of their numbers, which are in the thousands, who suffer from amputations in their limbs.

In turn, Elie Shehadeh said that this is an initiative between the Arab Society for Rehabilitation Hospital and the Palestinian Wounded Union to establish a fund that we called ‘Fajr’ to collect donations and funds to treat Palestinian wounded, whether from Gaza or the West Bank, explaining the most important thing in the agreement, which is the artificial limbs project and therapeutic and psychological support.

He pointed out that the association is suffering from a stifling financial crisis that has affected the nature of the services provided by the association, but they always hope to live up to the expectations of our people in performing their duties by helping our w
ounded.

In turn, the Governor of Bethlehem, Muhammad Taha Abu Alia, pointed out that the launch of this fund comes at a sensitive and important time in more than one aspect, the most important of which is the increase in the suffering of the wounded in light of the aggression on the one hand and the weak economic conditions on the other hand, which has disrupted the treatment of thousands of our wounded people, expressing his hope that the fund will receive the support of the Palestinian community.

Bethlehem Governor Mohammed Taha said that the importance of this agreement lies in the difficult economic, social and political circumstances experienced by the Palestinian people in light of the unprecedented attack by the occupation targeting everything Palestinian.

He said that this fund expresses the need for a collective community commitment from the private sector towards our wounded and our Palestinian issues.

The Wounded Association believes that launching this fund to care for the wounded comes at a s
ensitive and important time for political, field and economic reasons, while those in charge of it hope that the fund will receive the care and support of Palestinian society as a whole without absolving the government of its responsibilities towards the wounded.
