BEIJING: China has embraced the potential of 5G technology across various industries, concurrently driving rapid advancements in the realm of 6G technology, according to People’s Daily Online.
Wang Zhiqin, Vice President of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, projected that China aims to finalise standards for 6G by around 2025, with commercialisation expected by 2030.
Beijing is capitalising on the innovative potential of this emerging technology. The city hosts leading universities and research institutes in information and communications technology (ICT).
Beijing has already charted a course in areas such as base station equipment, terminal equipment, instruments, and chips, establishing a comprehensive mobile communications industry chain. The city is poised to become a new epicentre for 6G advancements.
Plans are underway to introduce an action plan for 6G technological innovation and industrial cultivation, aiming to establish a globally influential hub for 6G innovation
and industry.
In recent years, Beijing has significantly bolstered its support for the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. In 2023, the city introduced specific policies to advance AI innovation and industry, establishing four new government investment funds worth 10 billion yuan each focused on AI.
