Bassil from Terbol: We have no priority but Lebanon, our goal is steadfastness, building & persistence

Free Patriotic Movement Chief, MP Gebran Bassil, reaffirmed on Saturday his movement’s commitment to Lebanon as its utmost priority, reiterating the Lebanese people’s goal to build, remain steadfast and persist in the land of their ancestors and roots.

He said: ‘We have no project other than Lebanon, and we have no priority other than Lebanon. The value of the movement lies in its positive ability, in production, and in providing alternative solutions, because our goal is construction, steadfastness, and continuity.’

Speaking during a popular meeting with the people of the villages east of Zahle at the Mar Takla Church in Terbol earlier today, Bassil considered that no one was able to work properly in the villages east of Zahle because the state budgets were not sufficient; however, he indicated that despite these challenges, his movement managed to do a lot for Zahle’s district. ‘They only want the movement to be isolated or besieged, and the attempt to block the road is to prevent communication, but we wi
ll continue to communicate with all the Lebanese,’ he asserted.

‘Our problem in Lebanon is that our system prevents the formation of a majority, and one component cannot accomplish anything unless there the consent of all and this is a fundamental reason why we are unable to accomplish many things,’ Bassil explained.

Referring to the problem of quarries in the area, the MP said: “We developed with the Minister of Environment at the time a complete plan to address this matter across Lebanon,” noting that “the quarries’ project can provide basic income for the state, and this file can be transformed from a problem into an environmental solution,” adding that “chaos and randomness prevented the approval of the plan.”

Bassil considered that major projects are not difficult to accomplish in a country the size of Lebanon, but what hinders the implementation of projects is the uprising of the system against them and because such initiatives are the opposite of corruption.
