Badawi Outlines Egypt’s Ambitious Mining Vision at Future Minerals Forum


Riyadh: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi participated in the Fourth International Ministerial Roundtable of the Future Minerals Forum (FMF), held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Ministerial Roundtable was conducted under the theme ‘Towards a Global General Agreement on the Mining Sector.’

According to State Information Service Egypt, during his speech, Badawi emphasized the commitment of mining companies to evaluate environmental impacts before starting exploration activities. He detailed the development of work programs aimed at mitigating potential negative impacts, promoting economic principles, and encouraging the use of renewable energy resources in various mining activities. The minister highlighted efforts to improve operational efficiency through the application of the latest digital technologies and the use of more efficient equipment and vehicles, contributing to the reduction of waste and emissions.

Badawi outlined the ambitious goals for Egypt’s Mining Sector, including the
issuance of 300 licenses annually and the launch of at least three international bid rounds each year. He revealed plans to significantly enhance Mining’s contribution to the country’s GDP, targeting an increase to approximately 6%.

Additionally, Badawi discussed the forthcoming launch of the Egyptian Mining Portal, which will offer investors access to detailed geological data and comprehensive information about licenses. He also reviewed the strategy of the Egyptian Mining Sector to maximize the benefits of critical minerals, particularly in relation to clean energy and the green economy.

Badawi’s activities at the FMF included participation in the opening of the exhibition accompanying the forum. Together with other ministers, he inspected pavilions representing the Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, as well as various Saudi and international companies. The Egyptian mining sector’s pavilion, featuring the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA), Shalateen Mineral Resources Company, and
the New Valley Company for Mineral Resources and Oil Clay (Wadico), was also visited.

The forum provided an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of Egyptian mining companies, highlighting their successful projects both domestically and internationally. The exhibition further presented significant investment opportunities and explored potential projects for Egyptian companies beyond Egypt’s borders.
