Grand Imam of Azhar Sheikh Ahmed El Tayyeb asserted Monday that the Egyptian Family House was the fruit of a deep understanding between Al Azhar and the Church on the need to safeguard Egypt and Egyptians against sedition that have already destroyed old civilizations and societies around us and claimed the lives of thousands of people.
Addressing a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of founding the Egyptian Family House, Azhar Imam said the top Islamic Sunni institution and the Egyptian Churches have established the family house as part of their duties as religious foundations on the need to be involved in the state’s strenuous efforts to deter the malicious schemes of sedition and protect the nation against their harmful and disastrous impact.
He said there is no doubt about the presence of brotherhood among Muslims and Christians in Egypt and their right to defend their nation on the one aspect, while on the other every religion has its characteristics and specifications.
The Grand Imam also refuted claims for mixing up the three religions; Islam, Christianity and Judaism, under the name of Abrahamic religions, also sometimes referred to as Abrahamism, in order to unite the people and end their conflicts and disputes that have already led to bloodshed and armed struggles.
Such claims are similar to the globalization calls and the end of history and others that could never bring about any gains as they are calls for depriving humans from the freedom of belief, the freedom of choice and other freedoms that were revealed by the heavenly religions, the Imam added.
In fact, it is impossible that all humans could agree on one religion or one heavenly message, he said, adding that God has created the differences among people with their colors, sects, beliefs, languages and many other differences to cooperate and work together in their lives.
