AUB TO HOST SECOND “JUSTICE FOR GAZA” INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL LAW IN PROTECTING HEALTH, EDUCATION, AND CIVIL SOCIETY AMIDST CONFLICT


With a mission to address challenges in implementing international law in health, education, and civil society, the “Justice for Gaza: The Role of International Law in Protecting Health, Education, and Civil Society Amidst Conflict” conference will be held on Thursday June 20 between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and on Friday June 21 between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Bathish Auditorium, West Hall Building, on the American University of Beirut (AUB) campus.

Co-organized by the Gaza Health Initiative and the American University of Beirut, the conference aims to consolidate the voices of health practitioners, academics, legal experts, media professionals, and human rights advocates to support the enforcement of international law in Gaza and to strengthen relationships formed during the first “International Conference on Rebuilding the Health Sector in Gaza” previously held in Amman, while engaging new allies committed to human rights, education, and health access for the people in Gaza.

The conference objectives in
clude protecting and rebuilding the health sector from a human rights perspective; securing the future of education and academic institutions; promoting legal efforts to restore peace, equity, and human rights; addressing the humanitarian, social, and civic impact of the war; and exploring the role of mainstream and social media in shaping the narrative – all focused on Gaza.
