ASEZA: Aqaba Bird Observatory ‘key’ to attract ecotourism

Aqaba: Chairman of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Nayef Fayez, stressed Aqaba Bird Observatory (ABO) made a “key, remarkable and global” success story in the environment and climate categories at International Tourism Exhibition (ITB) BERLIN 2024.

Touring the observatory Wednesday, Fayez said the authority’s sustainability standards in various tourism categories form the basis for making Aqaba a “distinguished” green tourist destination.

According to an ASEZA statement, Fayez noted the ABO’s importance from the environmental and tourist aspects, which makes this haven an “ideal” destination for nature lovers and researchers to study birds and seasonal migration.

Fayez noted the observatory contributes to enhance environmental awareness and stimulate ecotourism in the region, which supports Aqaba’s position as a “major” hub for ecotourism in the Middle East.

Furthermore, he affirmed the ASEZA’s commitment , within its strategy, to promote “sustainable” growth and eco-tourism in the region,
noting that the observatory is one of the “unique” sites globally that follows an environmental approach to adapt to climate challenges.

Meanwhile, the ABO’s manager, Firas Rahahleh, highlighted progress of the observatory’s comprehensive 4-stage development process, expecting the completion of the implementation of the first stage in the last quarter of 2024.
