DUBAI: Robert Jenkins, Global Director of Education and Adolescent Development at the UNICEF, said that the global digital education sector is witnessing growth in terms of expanding the scope of its benefits for children and youth across the globe, supported by the employment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies that constitute a distinct potential to transform education systems for all children.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the third day of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024 being held in Dubai, Jenkins said that the rapid development of digital technologies represents a challenge in terms of ensuring that children who are not connected to the internet and digital technologies benefit.
“This development presents a challenge in terms of ensuring that children who are not connected to the internet and digital technology benefit, emphasising the need for their work to be combined to strengthen these capabilities in these areas and countries to ensure that
more children benefit from these technologies,” he added.
He said, “I believe that with more schools connecting to the internet, more devices becoming available, and data costs decreasing, digital schools and other learning platforms have great potential to transform education systems, so I believe we are all working hard and ambitiously to expand access as quickly as possible.”
He referred to the fruitful discussions raised at the WGS 2024 on issues related to children and their cognitive and scientific empowerment and care, and the consideration of how to benefit from the best technical and technological practices, stressing that the UAE has high potential and pioneering ideas in these areas.
