The High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel announced that a general strike will be observed on Tuesday across the Arab towns and cities in Israel in protest against the rampant crimes that resulted from the Israeli police’s inaction to sue perpetrators and hold them to account. The committee, during an emergency meeting held today in the Arab city of Kafr Qara in Israel, declared a state of emergency across the Arab towns and cities in Israel and called on the popular committees to prepare for the general strike and to work on convincing people to commit to the strike. The committee said that school hours will be limited to two hours on Tuesday, in order for students to participate in the popular marches. A growing state of outrage and condemnation has prevailed across the Arab towns and cities in Israel following the killing of three people in a matter of hours, including a teenager and a 60-year-old mosque imam. Several protests and calls by the Palestinians in Israel, who make up more than 20 percent of the Israeli population, for the government and police to fight the rise in crime in their towns have not yet yielded any significant results. Since the beginning of the year, the death toll of murders in Palestinian communities inside Israel has risen to 158, including nine women; an unprecedented toll compared to the past two years.
