Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, has vehemently condemned the ongoing Israeli military operations in northern Gaza, particularly in Jabalia, which have led to hundreds of casualties.
In a statement issued today, he stressed that Israel is exploiting global distractions arising from its actions in Lebanon to continue its violent campaign in Gaza. He asserted that the objective of these military operations is to sever northern Gaza from the rest of the Palestinian Territory and fully depopulate the area as part of a wider displacement strategy.
The Secretary-General condemned Israel’s ‘severe policies’, which include withholding essential resources like water and food from the local population, as well as attacks on healthcare facilities and the demolition of buildings.
He also denounced Israel’s seizure of the land of UNRWA’s main headquarters in East Jerusalem for the benefit of turning it into a colonial outpost, emphasizing that Israel is consistently working to undermine and
dismantle UNRWA.
Additionally, he expressed appreciation for the steadfast Arab support for the UN relief agency, which plays a crucial role in bolstering Palestinian resilience and delivering aid to refugees across its five operational areas.
He called on the international community to support UNRWA in the face of one of the most aggressive campaigns to dismantle a United Nations agency by the occupation authorities.
