Amman Chamber of Industry Exports Reach JD 4.55B in 8 Months

Exports from the Amman Chamber of Industry reached JD4.552 billion during the first eight months of 2024, a slight decline compared to JD4.739 billion for the same period in 2023, according to data obtained by the Jordan News Agency (Petra).

Seven sectors recorded growth in exports, with increases ranging from 2.4% for food, agricultural, and livestock industries, to 22.1% for chemical industries and cosmetics.

Meanwhile, exports from three other sectors saw declines, with the largest drop of 35.6% in the mining industries. The packaging, paper, cardboard, and office supplies sector also reported a 4.6% reduction, while construction industry exports fell by 23.1%.

More than half of the chamber’s exports during this period were directed to four key markets: India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, collectively accounting for JD2.896 billion.

Exports to the United States recorded a significant 53.2% increase, reaching JD1.
199 billion in the first eight months of 2024, compared to JD782 million for the same period in 2023. This growth positioned the U.S. as the top destination for Amman’s industrial exports.

Similarly, exports to Iraq rose by 10.8% to JD609 million, compared to JD549 million during the same period last year.

Conversely, exports to Saudi Arabia saw a decline of 5.5%, dropping to JD521 million from JD551 million in the same period in 2023. Exports to India also fell sharply by 37.6%, down to JD567 million from JD908 million.

Arab countries led the geographical distribution of exports from the Amman Chamber of Industry, with exports valued at JD2.014 billion. Non-Arab Asian countries followed, receiving JD833 million, while African countries received JD23 million worth of exports.

Exports to North America amounted to JD1.223 billion, while South American countries imported goods valued at JD61 million. European Union countries accounted for JD 235 million of exports, with non-EU European countries receiving JD
96 million. Exports to other global markets totaled JD66 million.

The chemical industries and cosmetics sector topped the list of Amman Chamber of Industry exports, with goods valued at JD1.102 billion. Mining industries followed, with exports amounting to JD947 million, while the engineering, electrical, and information technology sector accounted for JD712 million.

Other notable sectors included the food, agricultural, and livestock industries, which exported JD 521 million worth of products. Medical and pharmaceutical exports reached JD448 million, while leather and textile exports amounted to JD350 million.

Plastic and rubber industry exports stood at JD201 million, while packaging, paper, cardboard, and office supplies accounted for JD181 million. The construction sector exported JD76 million, and the wood and furniture industries contributed JD14 million in exports.

Established in 1962, the Amman Chamber of Industry currently has 8,600 industrial establishments as members, employing approximately 15
9,000 workers. The total capital of these establishments stands at around JD5 billion.
