All You Need to Know About the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup 2024


The countdown is on for the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup, a prestigious event that pits the champions of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League against the winners of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

This year, the 2024 edition will feature an all-Egyptian showdown as Al Ahly, the reigning Champions League winners, face off against Zamalek, the holders of the Confederation Cup.

The match is set to take place this Friday, 27 September, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Al Ahly has an impressive record in the Super Cup, having lifted the trophy eight times-a record in the competition. Zamalek, on the other hand, has claimed the title four times, first in 1994 against Al Ahly.

Both teams are eager to add another trophy to their collection: Al Ahly aiming for a ninth title, while Zamalek hopes to secure their fifth to keep pace with their rivals.

Al Ahly currently leads the all-time rankings for most CAF Super Cup victories, ahead of Zamalek with four titles and DR Congo’s TP Mazembe, who have won three times.

A New Visual Identity Unveiled

The 2024 edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup will be marked by the unveiling of a new visual identity. This initiative aims to elevate the global appeal of African football, reflecting CAF’s commitment to enhancing the image of its competitions. Inspired by the official trophy, this new visual identity is set to increase excitement ahead of the showdown between Al Ahly and Zamalek during the Riyadh 2024 season, which has been filled with numerous high-profile sports events garnering international attention.

Kingdom Arena

The Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will host this year’s Super Cup. The stadium, with a capacity of 30,000, features a retractable roof and state-of-the-art facilities. It became home to Al Hilal in
September 2023 and hosted its first football match on 29 January 2024, where Al Hilal defeated Inter Miami 4-3. The venue also holds two Guinness World Records for the largest covered football stadium and the highest capacity for a covered stadium.

The Kingdom Arena has also been the stage for notable events, including the professional boxing debut of Cameroonian fighter Francis Ngannou, who fought Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua at this venue.

Al Ahly Club Overview

Al Ahly, one of Africa’s most successful and celebrated football clubs, competes in the Egyptian Premier League. Founded on 24 April 1907, the club has never been relegated and remains one of the only two clubs, alongside Zamalek, to have participated in every Egyptian Premier League season since its inception in 1948.

Known as the “Club of the Century,” Al Ahly holds numerous records in both national and continental competitions, making it the most decorated club in Egypt and Africa. With 44 Egyptian League titles, 39 Egyptian Cup victories, an

Zamalek Club Overview

Founded on 5 January 1911, Zamalek is one of Egypt and Africa’s most renowned clubs. Based in Cairo, Zamalek has won numerous domestic and international titles, including 14 Egyptian League championships, 28 Egyptian Cups, 5 CAF Champions League titles, 2 CAF Confederation Cups, and 4 CAF Super Cups.

Zamalek boasts a large fan base both in Egypt and globally and has contributed significantly to the Egyptian national team with many of its players representing the country at the international level.
