ALC explores enhancing Arabic content, scientific research using technology, AI


ABU DHABI: At its third meeting this year, the Scientific Committee of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) emphasised the importance of keeping pace with technological advances and using artificial intelligence to enhance Arabic content and scientific research.

The committee, chaired by Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC, emphasised in its recommendations the need to use AI technologies to improve the quality and accuracy of Arabic content, thereby elevating the status of the Arabic language in the digital domain.

The recommendations included establishing mechanisms to increase the number of scholarly publications in Arabic; supporting the development of peer-reviewed journals, such as ‘The Journal of Arab Studies,’ published by the ALC; enhancing their leading global role in promoting Arabic research and studies; and increasing its accessibility and accreditation by leading international research centres.

The recommendations underscored the importance of fostering global cultural initiatives by
expanding partnerships with international publishers and cultural institutions, with an aim of enhancing knowledge exchange and using modern technologies in producing and distributing Arabic content. They also emphasised the importance of ongoing participation in international cultural events focused on education and skill development. AI was identified as a crucial tool for improving language teaching methods and enhancing cultural exchange.

Dr. Ali bin Tamim commended the Scientific Committee for its contributions to advancing the Centre’s objectives. He noted the importance of developing effective tools to reach a wider audience and stay abreast of the latest advancements. He affirmed that the Committee’s recommendations will bolster the Centre’s efforts to keep up with global technological developments and utilise AI to promote Arabic content and scientific research in the Arabic language.

He said, ‘The ALC’s initiatives have made a significant impact in targeted sectors thanks to their high-quality con
tent and innovative use of modern communications and technologies. This approach has successfully reached diverse audiences, particularly younger generations, and has contributed to the sustainability of the Arab publishing and cultural industries. It also reinforces Abu Dhabi’s leading role in showcasing authentic Arab culture and language while promoting a stronger presence in the cultural industries sector and all modern forms of communication.’

The Committee, which is formed annually, brings together renowned scientists, experts and intellectuals from various fields at the local, regional, and international levels. The members are: Dr. Abdulla al Ghathami, Dr. Ahmed Khrais, Dr. Ali al Kaabi, Dr. Bilal Orfalli, Dr. Hanada Taha, Dr. Mohamed Abouelfadl Badran, Dr. Mohsin al Musawi, Dr. Vitaly Naumkin, and Dr. Wen-Chin Ouyang.

The Committee serves as a scientific and knowledge reference to support the work of the Centre by providing counsel and making recommendations and proposals on strategic plans, progra
mmes, projects, and activities overseen, managed, or implemented by the ALC. It also provides suggestions for the development of the Centre’s vision and content policies, offering scientific recommendations in the areas of publishing, libraries, technology, activities, and events.

The Committee’s responsibilities include proposing experts and specialists to support and achieve the ALC’s objectives, as well as expanding the scope of Arab and international cooperation with specialised research centres. Additionally, the committee proposes holding conferences, seminars, and workshops aligned with the Centre’s goals, identifying relevant topics and themes, and actively participating in these events.
