The Minister of Culture, Judge Muhammad Wissam Al-Murtada, called on the Arab ministers of culture to “work with the help of specialists in education and linguistic sciences, to develop a scientific plan with clear curricula and easy implementation mechanisms, aimed at linking what has been cut off between our youth and their heritage, not only with the aim of reviving it, but in order to That our language absorb all the data of the modern era in all aspects of knowledge.”
Al-Murtada’s words came during his speech in Lebanon at the Conference of Ministers of Cultural Affairs in the Arab World “The Arabic Language Summit” in Dubai, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Minister of Culture and Youth of the United Arab Emirates Noura bint Muhammad Al Kaabi and the Ministers of Culture in the Arab countries .
The Minister of Culture began his speech by saying: “I bring to you a whiff of the fragrance of the cedar of Lebanon, and a handful of ashes from the port of Beirut. I bring the pride of a people suffering under all kinds of sieges, traps and tragedies and insisting on steadfastness, and the wounds of institutions groaning from poverty and fatigue and do not lag behind in work. It is Lebanon, gentlemen. , like Mount Sannine in which “it is falling, if it falls… they ascend,” as our poet Said Akl said.
He added: “We are united today by three headings: language, youth and modernity. In the mind of every Arab, these three must be one. Language is identity and the house of existence, as the German philosopher Immanuel Kant said. It was sanctified on earth by the revelation of the Noble Qur’an through it (Indeed, We sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an) and in heaven because it is the language of the people of Paradise, as in some of our heritage. This is for us Muslims.”
And he added: “As for the Arab Christians, who used to speak the Arabic language before Islam. They did not join the Islam that was offered to them. They remained in Arabism as a civilization, that is, in all literary, artistic, and social aspects. No one can master this language completely unless it is He has a familiarity with the Qur’an, according to what the Bishop of Arabia, Archbishop George Khidr, says. in all aspects of Arab-Islamic civilization, especially language.
The Minister of Culture pointed to the reality of globalization and its impact, considering that “strangeness is rising among our youth and their language, from the impact of globalization and its economic and political requirements that produced cultural requirements that made the age subject to languages other than Arabic. Digital modernity and its technologies in the virtual world would widen this rift. Especially since Arabic digital content on scientific research engines does not exceed three percent of the total content.
He added: “In addition to all this, there is a clear Arab failure in working to spread the culture of the Arabs and their civilizational heritage, which was the cornerstone of the renaissance of Europe. One of the evidences of this failure is that China, for example, opened dozens of centers and institutes to teach its citizens the Arabic language, and we did not do anything about it.” That is, not in the major western capitals, nor in the prestigious university institutions, nor even with the second generation of the sons of the Arab communities scattered around the world, except for the centers of religious vocations that blocked the cultural and linguistic failure.”
Al-Murtada concluded: “With our absolute belief that Arabic is a language that does not die, because God preserved it in his dear book (and God is the best preserver), this reality that you described dictates that Arab ministers of culture work with the help of specialists in education and linguistic sciences, to develop a scientific plan with clear approaches. And easy implementation mechanisms aimed at linking what was cut off between our youth and their heritage, not with the aim of reviving it only, but in order for our language to absorb all the data of the modern era in all aspects of knowledge, and thus become as competent as it did in the era of ancient brilliance. With the help of God Almighty, we will certainly succeed
