Cairo: Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rania Al-Mashat, met with Hisham Azmy, Head of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority, to review joint efforts to support Egypt’s National Intellectual Property Strategy. The discussions focused on enhancing the country’s intellectual property framework and leveraging technology to streamline processes.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting included discussions on a Korean-funded project aimed at automating the patent system and improving related services. This initiative is expected to expedite the registration process and provide wider access to intellectual property data, facilitating better support for innovators and businesses.
The talks also highlighted the Authority’s commitment to educating startups about intellectual property rights and bolstering Egypt’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. Al-Mashat emphasized the critical role of intellectual property protection in economic development and the necessity for updated legislation to foster innovation and maintain competitiveness in the global market.
Furthermore, the Authority is preparing to launch projects aimed at upgrading infrastructure and expanding its operational capacity to meet national objectives. This aligns with the broader goal of building a knowledge-based economy, a vision endorsed by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi when he approved the establishment of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority in 2023 to meet international standards.
