Al-Azhar University President stresses interfaith collaboration for climate solutions at COP28

Prof. Salama Dawood, President of Al-Azhar University, has emphasised the significance of collaboration among different religions and cultures to confront current environmental challenges. He noted that collective cooperation and efforts by all are the keys to success in addressing the repercussions of climate change.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during his visit to the “Faith Pavilion” at COP28, he stated that religious teachings advocate for the preservation and care of the environment, considering it “an integral part of our human, moral, and societal responsibilities.”

Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, General Secretary of the Muslim Council of Elders, welcomed Prof. Dawood during his visit to the pavilion. He toured its various sections and learned about the significant activities and events organised by the pavilion.

Dawood praised the efforts of the Muslim Council of Elders in engaging with global challenges and acknowledged their role in enhancing the involvement of religious leaders i
n addressing these challenges.

Judge Abdelsalam affirmed that the world looks forward to the role of prominent religious leaders and institutions in raising awareness about climate issues and other challenges threatening humanity. He highlighted the long-standing and leading global role of Al-Azhar in scientific, religious, ethical, and humanitarian domains.
