Al Azhar to Establish Center for Arabic Language Teaching for Imams in Burkina Faso.


Cairo: Grand Imam of Al Azhar Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb held a meeting with Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, at the Al-Azhar Sheikhdom to explore avenues for enhancing mutual cooperation. The discussions focused on Al Azhar’s long-standing relationship with Burkina Faso and the pressing challenges the nation currently faces.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Grand Imam emphasized Al Azhar’s commitment to supporting Burkina Faso in combating extremist ideologies, underscoring that the battle against extremism is fundamentally intellectual. He announced plans to conduct more intensive training courses for Burkinabe imams and preachers at the Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams and Preachers. This initiative aims to equip them with the skills necessary to counter extremist rhetoric effectively.

Furthermore, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb revealed intentions to increase the number of scholarships available to Burkinabe students wishing to study at Al-Azhar Univers
ity. He also announced the establishment of a dedicated center for teaching the Arabic language in Burkina Faso. This center aims to empower the Burkinabe people by enhancing their language skills, thereby strengthening their ability to address internal challenges.

In response, Foreign Minister Traoré expressed gratitude for Al-Azhar’s continued support of African nations, particularly Burkina Faso, highlighting the positive impact of these efforts on the region.
