Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb offered his sincere condolences to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese over the death of Arsanios Wadid, the Priest of the Church of the Virgin Mary and Mar Boulos in Alexandria after being stabbed on Thursday.
The Grand Imam also extended his condolences to all Christians over the priest’s killing.
In a statement, the Grand Imam said that killing a soul is a major sin in Islam whose perpetrators deserve God’s wrath and punishment as God considered killing one soul similar to the killing of all mankind.
Tayyeb called on everyone to be aware of such accidents, which he described as a way for waging religious wars between the citizens of a homeland, urging citizens to foil such schemes.
Al Azhar Al Sharif extended its deep condolences to the family of the priest as well as to all Christians, expressing hope that God would preserve Egypt and keep its people secure.
