Al-Azhar Grand Imam emphasises nation’s rich scientific heritage

ABU DHABI: His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders Professor Ahmed Al-Tayeb has underscored the significance of upholding the rich heritage of the Muslim world, which is filled with sciences and knowledge.

This came during His Eminence’s meeting with Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, and Dr. Khalifa Al Dhaheri, Chancellor of Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities, at his residence in Abu Dhabi. Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, was present.

During the meeting, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar stressed the importance of leveraging Islamic heritage to foster understanding and explore diverse intellectual traditions, while adhering to foundational religious principles.

Emphasising that Islamic civilisation historically championed openness and rejected extremism, His Eminence called for collaborative efforts among the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, E
ndowments and Zakat, Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and the Muslim Council of Elders. These efforts aim to promote shared human values, cultivate intercultural dialogue, and safeguard youth against extremist ideologies, while instilling ethical values and loyalty to their communities.

Dr. Al Darei and Dr. Al Dhaheri commended His Eminence’s profound contributions to Islam and peacebuilding efforts globally. They expressed readiness to advance scientific, knowledge-based, and Islamic teaching cooperation with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the Muslim Council of Elders, aligning with principles of justice, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
