Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb to Address Global Climate Crisis at COP29 in Azerbaijan.

Baku: Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb will participate in the opening ceremony of the 29th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) that will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 11-22. In a statement, Al Azhar mentioned that Tayyeb’s participation in this significant international event is a result of an invitation extended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Al Azhar headquarters in Cairo in June.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Tayyeb is set to deliver a noteworthy speech that will focus on environmental preservation and strategies to tackle the global climate crisis from an Islamic viewpoint. This address will also explore how religious leaders can be influential in raising awareness about climate action.

In addition to his speech, the Grand Imam plans to engage in discussions on the sidelines of the conference with various officials, including religious leaders, thinkers, and cultural figures worldwide. These meetings aim to align per
spectives and initiate collaborative efforts in addressing global challenges, particularly climate issues and conflicts impacting the most vulnerable populations, such as displaced persons, the poor, and the homeless.
