Akeed records 44 rumors in April

The Jordanian Media Credibility Monitor “Akeed” said it recorded 44 rumors that circulated through local media and social media platforms during the month of April. The monitor’s monthly report, which came out on Monday, said this month saw 6 rumors more than the 38 recorded in March. Public affairs topped the list of April rumors with 16, about 36 percent of the total 44, followed by 13 economic rumors (30 percent), 9 security rumors (20 percent), 3 political rumors (7 percent), 2 health rumors (5 percent), and 1 social rumor (2 percent). Forty-three, or 98 percent, of the April rumors originated from local sources, such as social media platforms and news websites, according to the report. Thirty-five rumors, 80 percent of the total number, originated from local social media, and 9, or 20 percent, came from traditional media outlets, it said. The monitor urged social network users to refrain from sharing or re-posting any content without a credible source, noting that relying on these sites for news without considering content veracity leads to a great deal of incorrect and inaccurate news, rumors, and misinformation.
