AJMAN: Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Port and Customs Department, received Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, at the department’s headquarters.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director-General of Ajman Port and Customs Department, Juma Al Kait, Assistant Under-Secretary for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, and several officials.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi highlighted the role of the department in advancing customs operations, facilitating foreign trade, diversifying the economy, and increasing the growth rates of container volumes at Ajman Port.

He also noted the provision of the best facilities and services to small and medium-sized enterprises to strengthen their competitive role both locally and internationally.

The discussion took place during a briefing where Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi was updated on the latest in
itiatives and projects launched by the department.

He stressed that the visit is a crucial step towards enhancing coordination and cooperation with the federal government to support the foreign trade sector, achieve sustainable diversification across all areas of the national economy, and boost non-oil GDP growth in the UAE in general, and Ajman in particular, given its strategic geographical location on the Arabian Gulf coast and its role as a link between the various emirates of the country.

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi stated that the UAE is considered an international pioneering hub, enjoying a prestigious global standing. It has become an important centre for non-oil foreign trade and has expanded its network of trade partners by opening new markets through the signing of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements, which enhance the economic diversification policy and contribute to doubling the country’s GDP.

He confirmed that data and indicators show the strength of trade movement between the UA
E and other countries worldwide, with the maritime transport sector forming a significant part of this movement.

He praised the initiatives of Ajman Port and Customs Department, its ongoing efforts, its technological advancements, and its diverse services, which are based on a robust infrastructure and diverse human competencies.
