BRUSSELS: The European Parliament voted today in favor of a resolution calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and urged expedited delivery of humanitarian aid to the war-ravaged region.

The parliamentary resolution, which also emphasizes the need to restart efforts towards a political solution to address the longstanding conflict, was endorsed by a majority of 312 votes, with 131 against and 72 abstentions.

The resolution reflects growing concerns over racist Israeli policies leading to the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The resolution also raises alarms about the repercussions of Israeli settler violence in the occupied West Bank.

Expressing solidarity with the International Court of Justice in its pursuit of holding Israel to account for committing genocide in Gaza, the resolution underscores the importance of introducing a new European initiative aimed at reviving the political process in the Palestine.

The resolution further calls for expediting the delivery of desperately ne
eded aid to the Gaza Strip, where nearly two million Palestinians have been displaced as a result of the ongoing Israeli war of genocide for over 104 days.
