Agriculture Ministry, FAO ink 2 cooperation documents

The Agriculture Ministry and the Food and Agriculture Organization signed on Friday two cooperation documents on launching the Scaling up Climate Ambition on Land Use and Agriculture Program (SCALA) and Global Action for Fall Armyworm Control.

Qusair stressed the importance of the fruitful and serious cooperation between the ministry and FAO in a number of projects that aim to achieve the agriculture development in Egypt.

Hailing the deeply-rooted cooperation, Qusair said the joint projects target to turn the ministry’s priorities into tangible actions and implementable climate solutions as well as supporting the countryside’s capabilities.

Under the FAO global action, Egypt will draw up a national plan to combat the armyworm and review its outcomes with regional partners.

SCALA program responds to the urgent need for increased action to cope with climate change impacts in the agriculture and land use sectors.

SCALA supports twelve countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America to build adaptive capacity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to meet targets set out in their National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and nationally determined contributions (NDCs), as well as contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

FAO has developed a new three-year Global Action for Fall Armyworm Control to ensure a strong coordinated approach at country, regional and global levels.

FAO’s new global initiative aims to mobilize USD 10 million over 2020–22 to take radical, direct and coordinated measures to strengthen prevention and sustainable pest control capacities at a global level.
