Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El Sayyed El Quseir underlined the distinguished ties between Egypt and Russia under the political leaderships of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
This came during his meeting with Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut on the sidelines of the 14th Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Agriculture in Moscow. The meeting was attended by Egypt’s ambassador to Russia Nazih el Nagari.
Quseir underlined Russia’s support for Egypt to join the BRICS, noting that Egypt and Russia shared distinguished agricultural ties, particularly in the agricultural commodity exchange.
He further underlined Egypt’s keenness on beefing up the volume of Egyptian agricultural exports to Russia, as Egyptian products are currently distinguished by their quality and global competitiveness in light of the Russian side’s need to import large quantities of agricultural commodities, like citrus fruits and vegetables.
He also expressed Egypt’s support for
Russia’s initiative to create a trade alliance of nine emerging countries, to establish an inter-bloc grain exchange.
For her part, the Russian minister said that the agricultural sector is important for both countries.
In 2023, the volume of agricultural exchange between the two countries reached more than dlrs 3 billion, she said.
Lut said that ensuring Egypt’s food security is a priority for Russia, stressing the importance of developing an annual import plan for Egypt’s needs from the Russian side.
She lauded Egypt’s accession to the BRICS countries, saying this step will enhance the role of the BRICS countries given its strategic location.
Lut also expressed Russia’s interest in the issue of scientific exchange between the two countries, particularly in the agriculture and veterinary areas.
Russia also supports sending Russian students to Egypt within the framework of promoting agricultural scientific cooperation and exchanging expertise between the two sides, she said.
She added that she will wor
k to ensure the uninterrupted flow of agricultural commodities from Russia to Egypt, particularly wheat.
