Abu Dhabi: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk has affirmed Egypt’s readiness to extend comprehensive support to the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) to help it achieve its objectives and enhance the capabilities of its member states. The announcement was made during a meeting with IOFS Director General Berik Aryn on the sidelines of the World Food Summit held in Abu Dhabi.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian minister and the IOFS director general explored areas of joint cooperation between the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and the IOFS for the upcoming period. Minister Farouk emphasized Egypt’s efforts to secure food security amidst global challenges impacting food supply chains. He highlighted that Egypt has achieved self-sufficiency in certain strategic crops, exporting surpluses to more than 160 global markets.
In response, Director General Aryn underscored the initiatives adopted by the IOFS aimed at addressing food security challenges within
the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Both parties agreed on the necessity of maintaining cooperative efforts between Egypt and the IOFS. They emphasized promoting sustainable agricultural solutions to ensure long-term food security and develop the agricultural sector across IOFS member states.
