Minister of Agriculture El Sayyed El Qussair chaired on Thursday 31/3/2022 the closing session of the 28th round of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) executive board.
In a concluding address, he said that his participation in the session aimed at promoting and upgrading the OSS activities in the coming phase.
He underlined the important recommendations issued by the Observatory including those on responding to the needs of the member states to mitigate the impact of water poverty and find proper ways to get much-needed funding for their water and climate adaptation projects.
He also pointed out to expanding in funding projects for the sustainable management of water resources to achieve food security for states which suffer water poverty.
Recommendations of the executive board also included accelerating the measures for funding a project called “improving living conditions against the backdrop of the climate change challenges in Siwa Oasis” which is funded with dlrs 8 million from the Observatory’s fund, he added.
The Sahara and Sahel Observatory is a regional entity in Africa that aims to serve as an international framework for partnership and dialogue in the fight against desertification and in the attenuation of the effects of drought, the adaptation to climate change and the protection of biodiversity. OSS supports the efforts of its member countries in the Sahara-Sahel region in the fields of natural resource management and sustainable development, particularly on key themes such as land degradation, desertification, drought and the adverse impacts of climate change on ecosystems and populations.
