ADAFSW kicks off with over 600 innovation and agricultural sustainability exhibitors


Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week (ADAFSW), organised by ADAFSA, kicked off today, and will run until 22nd November at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

Mouza Suhail Al Muhairi, Deputy Director-General of ADAFSA for Regulatory and Administrative Affairs, stressed that the holding of the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week 2023 comes at a time when the UAE efforts are accelerating across its institutions to promote sustainability in various fields, reflecting our firm commitment to achieving sustainable development and preserving natural resources.

The launch of ADAFSW’s events coincides with the UAE’s hosting of COP28 and the launch of several strategic initiatives, led by the
“Year of Sustainability” initiative launched by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, under the title “Today for Tomorrow”.

In an opening note she delivered during the opening of the week’s activities in the presence of a large number of senior officials from the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE, Al Muhairi said that ADAFSW is an exceptional event in the field of sustainable agriculture and food security in the MENA region. Its events are in line with the strategy of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to achieve global leadership in the field of food security, and to confirm its prominent role in developing effective frameworks for cooperation with international partners in the fields of agriculture and food. This reflects Abu Dhabi’s status as the most vibrant and dynamic city and capital of sustainability in the region and the world.

She also pointed out that the support and generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan reflects his keenness to promote innovation in agri
culture by supporting scientific research, adopting modern technologies such as climate-smart agriculture and using artificial intelligence to improve production processes, and achieving an effective balance between meeting the needs of the sector and preserving the environment and natural resources.

Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week 2023 is the largest event dedicated to sustainable agriculture and food security in the MENA region. It brings together over 600 exhibitors from 40 countries around the world, and is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors from agriculture and food production professionals from around 90 countries worldwide.

VIV MEA 2023 (www.vivmea.nl) is the leading livestock exhibition in the Middle East, with the participation of a large number of exhibitors, and a significant increase in exhibition space this year. Moreover, various associated events have been added. This year’s exhibition will spotlight the animal protein production chain from seed to food.

Horti Agri Ne
xt (HAN) 2023 (www.hortiagrimea.com) is the exhibition intended for horticulture and agriculture professionals. The capital, Abu Dhabi, will host the first edition of the exhibition, which will serve as a meeting point for suppliers of horticulture and agriculture products from around the world with potential buyers from the Middle East and Africa. The exhibition also attracts many leading companies in the sector, as well as a range of experts, scientists, researchers and innovators from around the world. This year’s edition will also highlight seed-to-food technologies for fruit and vegetable production.

In the context of ADAFSW, the UAE Conference on the Microbiome 2023: Human and Plant Health – Applications and Challenges will be held on the second day of the week. It is organised in cooperation with the UAE University, Khalifa Center for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KCBGE), and is the largest scientific event during the week’s events. It includes scientific lectures and workshops.

Another high
light of the week’s programme is the FoodTech Transition Square, which is set to be constructed at the exhibition ground for the first time. It will bring together the realms of agriculture, livestock farming, and household farming, showcasing the latest technologies and innovations in food production.
