ADAFSA honours collaborators for reporting food violations, urges public to protect food hygiene and safety

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has honoured distinguished collaborators at its head office.

These individuals have significantly contributed by reporting violations in food establishments across Abu Dhabi over the past year. This recognition is part of the “Food Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility” initiative, aimed at promoting a culture of food safety within the community, encouraging public engagement in safeguarding food health and safety, and enhancing community engagement in achieving ADAFSA’s goals.

This initiative embodies ADAFSA’s commitment to encouraging community members to actively participate in protecting food health and safety by reporting any improper practices observed in food establishments.

ADAFSA received 1,965 reports from collaborators who volunteered to report food establishment violations in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi during the past year 2023. The number of reports reached approximately 1,229 during the first half of the current year 2024.

his increasing number of reports reflects the growing awareness among community members about the importance of their role in maintaining food safety and their positive interaction with ADAFSA’s initiatives aimed at enhancing community monitoring of food establishments.

These reports contribute also to the early detection of violations and enhance the commitment of establishment owners and workers to apply all health requirements in their operations.

Basel Al Jabri, Acting Executive Director of the Control and Inspection Sector, said: ‘This initiative confirms ADAFSA’s commitment to enhancing the culture of food safety in the community and highlights the crucial role of community members in protecting food health and safety by reporting any improper practices observed in food establishments.”

He added, “We appreciate the community’s response to ADAFSA’s initiatives aimed at enhancing community monitoring of food establishments and encourage everyone to actively participate in this initiative by reporting a
ny observed violations, ensuring the health and safety of community members in Abu Dhabi. Each public report contributes to increasing the ability to detect violations early on and enhances the commitment of food establishment owners and workers to apply all health requirements in their operations. We assure you that all reports are handled with utmost seriousness and confidentiality, and necessary measures are taken to verify the reports and ensure food safety, applying best health practices in all food establishments operating in Abu Dhabi.”

Al Jaberi urged the public to contact ADAFSA and report any violations detected in any food establishment, such as non-compliance or suspicion of food content, by calling the toll-free number for the Abu Dhabi Government, 800555. ADAFSA’s inspectors will take the necessary measures to ensure food safety for all community members in Abu Dhabi.
