ActionAid, an international non-governmental organization, has reported that women and girls in Gaza are facing unprecedented levels of violence, rendering the besieged territory one of the most perilous places for women globally.
As the world marks 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, the situation in Gaza has reached a critical point, with women and girls experiencing alarming rates of casualties, daily denial of essential rights, and enduring profound psychological distress after two months of living in constant fear amid the ongoing Israeli war of genocide.
The statistics presented by ActionAid paint a grim and shocking picture of the crisis. The report reveals that, on average, two mothers are killed every hour in Gaza, and seven women lose their lives every two hours.
Since October 7, more than 5,000 women have been killed by Israel, constituting nearly 70% of the total death toll, which includes women and children. The pervasive nature of the violence means that almost every woman and
girl in Gaza has lost someone close to them – be it a child, husband, parent, sibling, relative, neighbor, or friend.
The dire situation extends to pregnant women in Gaza, with approximately 50,000 women expecting. Alarmingly, each day, 180 pregnant women risk their lives to give birth without adequate medical care. This includes undergoing cesarean sections and emergency operations without proper sterilization, anesthesia, or painkillers.
