Abu Dhabi is set to unpack an action-packed agenda of local, regional, and international sporting events and activities in December.
Thousands of participants are getting ready to attend and take part in these events, with the highlight being the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon and the Spartan World Championship.
The Egyptian Super Cup will also be held in Abu Dhabi under a new format, kicking off on 25th December and featuring four teams – Al Ahly, Pyramids, Future FC, and Ceramica Cleopatra – at the Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium.
The Etihad Arena on Yas Island will host the second edition of the World Tennis League from 21st to 24th December, with the participation of 16 tennis stars, including women’s world number two Aryna Sabalenka and men’s world number three Daniil Medvedev.
Al Dhafra Region will host the third Al Sila’ Marine Festival from 6th to 10th December, featuring various traditional and modern maritime sports activities, with wide participation from both inside and outside the UAE.
The Spartan Worl
d Championship is another major sporting event hosted by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in partnership with Spartan, the global leader in endurance and obstacle sports, from 8th to 10th December, 2023, in the Al Wathba desert. The three-day event attracts thousands of athletes, from elite competitors to community members, who challenge their physical abilities in a test of power, endurance, and speed.
The 15th edition of the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon will also take place on 16th December, featuring some of the world’s best runners. The event is expected to attract some 23,000 participants, who will run various distances, which are a marathon, relay marathon, 10 kilometres (km), 5 km, and 2.5 km. The races will start from different locations near the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) headquarters on the Abu Dhabi Corniche and finish at the ADNOC complex near Bainouna Park.
The Liwa International Festival will take place from 8th to 31st December, organised by Liwa Sports Club in collaboration with the Depa
rtment of Culture and Tourism-Abu Dhabi. The event will comprise a range of sporting events, including car freestyle, falcon racing, camel racing, horse racing, cycling, and desert sports events, with the participation of thousands from the UAE and abroad.
The Asian Youth Chess Championship will be held at the Al Ain Chess and Mind Sports Club from 12th to 22nd December, in collaboration with the Asian Chess Federation.
