ABU DHABI: The General Secretariat of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) held its first meeting of 2024 today at the headquarters of the Emirates News Agency (WAM) in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was attended by the directors-general and representatives of Arab news agencies.

Chaired by Dr. Jamal Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, Acting Director-General of WAM and President of FANA, the participants discussed the agenda items, the activities of the General Secretariat, and the latest developments in Arab media cooperation and ways to enhance it.

The meeting, also attended by Farid Ayar, Secretary-General of FANA, reviewed preparations for the upcoming 51st FANA General Assembly, set to be hosted by Kuwait on 27th October. Additionally, the recommendations to be presented at the meeting later this month were examined.

Dr. Al Kaabi highlighted that, in line with the UAE’s leadership directives, the country continues to play an active and influential role in promoting joint Arab media efforts. “The UAE is committed
to advancing Arab media by fostering a modern, evolving landscape capable of keeping pace with global technological advancements,” he continued.

He stressed the importance of enhancing the status of Arab news agencies as a trusted source of news through collaborative efforts to improve media discourse. This, he explained, involves using advanced tools to communicate with the public, particularly the youth, who are central to sustainable development and the ongoing progress and prosperity of Arab nations.
