Abdelatty Engages with WHO Director-General on Health Initiatives and Regional Crises


Geneva: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty met with the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom, as part of a series of intensive meetings the Minister held with leaders of UN organizations operating in Geneva.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the Foreign Minister praised the cooperation between Egypt and WHO, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to enhancing its health systems. He highlighted initiatives like “100 Million Health” reflecting Egypt’s comprehensive health improvement strategy aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030. Minister Abdelatty also commended Tedros Adhanom’s leadership during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.



Minister Abdelatty noted the impact of regional political and humanitarian issues on migration and displacement, increasing pressure on Egypt’s healthcare system. He urged WHO to support Egypt in managing these challenges.



Discussing the humanitarian crises in the region, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s efforts in supporting relief operations in Gaza, including coordinating aid with UN agencies. He mentioned Egypt’s role in receiving critical medical cases in El-Arish city and efforts to alleviate Palestinian suffering.



Both parties discussed developments in Gaza and Egypt’s intention to strengthen cooperation with WHO to provide healthcare services in the region. Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s priority in supporting Gaza’s recovery and reducing humanitarian suffering.
