Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday held phone calls with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide, and Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares. The move comes in light of successive developments in the Gaza Strip.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the calls focused on the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and its dire repercussions on the region’s stability. During the calls, Abdelatty stated that the Israeli aggression is reviving tension in the region and hindering efforts aimed at calming the situation and restoring stability.
The Egyptian foreign minister highlighted the need for the European Union to place pressure on Israel to immediately stop its aggression against civilians in the Gaza Strip, which he mentioned as a violation of the ceasefire agreement. He also emphasized the necessity for parties to exercise self-restraint to allow mediators to complete their efforts to establish a permanent ceasefire agreement in its three phases.
During the discussions, it was agreed to maintain contacts and joint coordination to de-escalate the situation in Gaza.
